Do 11th and 12th standard studies form the base for commerce students ? 

Basic concepts for subjects like accountancy , economics , organisation of commerce and corporate law are important for the students. During my teaching tenure spanning almost 12 years now , I have met students who are pursuing higher education but sometimes do not have a clear understanding of the basic concepts. This creates hindrances in their educational ambitions as well as professional careers. 

A building will collapse if the base is not strong. Same happens to be true for the basic foundation of these subjects. When you start working , in your professional career , you will see a substantial difference if your academic base is strong. 

For science stream students , they have learnt basics of physics , chemistry , maths or biology when they enter into eleventh standard. But for commerce stream students , most of them learn words like debit and credit , assets , liabilities , GDP , GNP for the very first time. The syllabus for commerce stream is so nicely designed that a student grasps the concepts during these two years with manageable pace. 

These two years students should focus on 

1. Understanding each and every concept with clarity

4. Reading business news - either through economic times or business standard
5. Group discussion with peers on current topics of finance : You may understand less as of now , but going forward it will help you to grasp concepts and bridge the gap between academia versus the practical side of it

Students can focus on strengthening their concepts and start studying simultaneously for professional exams as well.
